Adelaide Zoo

CAMERA

This camera is set up as a collaboration between the National Malleefowl Recovery Team and Zoos SA and is for educational purposes. The camera is in the Mallee Habitat exhibit at the Adelaide Zoo.

 

The exhibit houses two Malleefowl as well as numerous other birds that you may see in mallee habitat in the South Australian bush.

 

The camera operates between 5:00am & 9:00 pm CST

Malleefowl Egg Laying

Malleefowl at Adelaide Zoo laying an egg. Malleefowl eggs weigh approximately 10% of the bird’s body weight and average 200 grams. A large chook egg weighs 70 to 80 grams. Malleefowl egg to body weight ratio is less than its relative, the Orange Footed Scrub-fowl, whose eggs are 20% of their body weight.
