Adelaide Zoo

CAMERA

This camera was set up as a collaboration between the National Malleefowl Recovery Team and Zoos SA and iss for educational purposes. The camera was in the Mallee Habitat exhibit at the Adelaide Zoo.

The exhibit houses two Malleefowl as well as numerous other birds that you may see in mallee habitat in the South Australian bush.

Malleefowl Egg Laying

Malleefowl at Adelaide Zoo laying an egg. Malleefowl eggs weigh approximatly 10% of the birds body weight and average 200 grams. A large chook egg weighs 70 to 80 grams. Malleefowl egg to body weight ratio is second to its relative the Orange Footed Scrub-fowl that lays eggs that are 20% of its body weight.
